HAMLET

Edited to a streamlined 2 hours, and with a company of nine actors, REV’s Hamlet was tightly focused on the themes of love, loss, madness and revenge through a fierce power struggle between Claudius and Hamlet.  Set in Imperialist Russia just before World War I, the setting reflected a world on the verge of impending revolution and chaos.

In 2009, REV’s production of Hamlet inaugurated the Goodwill Theatre’s Shakespeare Alive! Program, a unique educational experience for middle and high school students in the Southern Tier of New York.  In 2011 the Goodwill presented Hamlet again due to the enthusiastic responses from educators and students and the overwhelming demand to see the production.

Both versions of the play were presented in the Firehouse Stage, an intimate venue that brought the audience directly into the action of the play, as witnesses to and participants in the events.  Audiences were totally immersed in the action, seeing the events play out at a distance of a few feet, which gave the story great immediacy and excitement.
